FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I MAKE A NEW PATIENT APPOINTMENT?

DO I NEED TO HAVE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE TO ATTEND THIS PRACTICE?

In order to make an appointment, a referral will first be sent by your General Practitioner or Specialist along with any tests or studies that have been conducted to date. Once that referral and supporting documentation has been received by us, it is then viewed by the requested Oncologist and an appointment time be given. Our Medical Receptionists will then phone you to confirm.

Yes. All patients seen at our Epworth Consulting Rooms must have Private Health Insurance. Patients who do not have Private Health Insurance, are considered Public Patients, for which referrals should be directed to Oncologists at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre at University Hospital, Ryrie Street, Geelong.

IS THERE AN "OUT OF POCKET" COST TO SEE AN ONCOLOGIST AT THESE ROOMS?

WHERE ARE OUR WE LOCATED?

Yes. Consultation fees are charged when you see any Oncologist in our rooms and these fees largely depend on the length of appointment time. Medicare does cover part of this fee. Any 'out of pocket' component covers the time you spend with your doctor, correspondence from your doctor to the referring doctor and other practitioners involved in your care, organisation of your treatment (if required), phone calls and any other general administration related to your care. A list of fees are available on the Reception Desk.

We can be found at:-
Epworth Hospital
Level 6 (Suite 6.5)
1 Epworth Place
Waurn Ponds, 3216

Once you enter the Hospital Foyer, take the lifts to Level 6 and look for Suite 6.5.

IS THERE CAR PARKING AVAILABLE?

WHAT INFORMATION AND SUPPORT CAN YOU OFFER MYSELF OR MY FAMILY?

There are currently two large open air carparks at the hospital for patients, visitors and staff. For patients who hold a 'Disability Parking Permit', there are some carparks at the turnaround by the main doors to the hospital, otherwise there is designated 'Disabled Parking' in the main car park closest to the hospital. There is a charge to use the Epworth Car Park. You will be given a ticket upon entry and payment can be made at the machine just outside the main doors as you are leaving.

We have numerous books, brochures and information sheets for patients and their families to access.
We can also offer referrals to support services from Counselling to Oncology Massage, and many more besides. Please ask your Oncologist or our Medical Reception Staff if you need further information.
The Cancer Council of Victoria is also a great resource. Either access their website www.cancervic.org.au or phone 131120.
